Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our heritage craftsmanship, customisation process, shipping, and more. If you cannot find your answer below, feel free to reach out to us - we are always happy to help.
Orders & Customisation
Do you offer customisation or bespoke orders?
Absolutely. Bespoke craftsmanship is at the heart of our heritage. Every SHRIVATSA piece can be tailored to your vision - from selecting the precise gemstones and gold purity to adjusting proportions, motifs, and enamel palettes. Our master karigars in Jodhpur have been perfecting the art of jadau for generations, and they bring the same devotion to a fully custom creation as they do to our signature collections.
How long does a custom piece take?
Most bespoke pieces require 4 to 8 weeks from design approval to completion. Intricate bridal sets or elaborate jadau necklaces with extensive meenakari or gem-setting may take up to 12 weeks. We will provide a clear timeline at the start of your project and keep you updated at every stage of the process.
Can I modify an existing design from your collection?
Of course. Many clients start with a design they love and personalise it - changing the gemstone layout, adjusting the length, swapping enamel colours, or adapting a necklace motif into earrings. Simply share the piece you would like to modify and we will walk you through what is possible.
Is there a minimum order value for custom pieces?
There is no minimum order value. Whether it is a single pair of polki studs or a complete bridal parure, every piece is crafted with equal care and attention. We believe fine jewellery should be accessible to anyone who values heritage craftsmanship.
How do I start a custom order?
The easiest way is to book a consultation - either in person at our Jodhpur atelier or via a WhatsApp video call. Share your inspiration images, preferred budget range, and any specific requirements. Our design team will prepare sketches and a detailed proposal for your review before any work begins.
Materials & Craft
What is jadau jewellery?
Jadau is an ancient jewellery-making technique that originated in the Mughal courts of Rajasthan and Gujarat over 400 years ago. It involves setting uncut diamonds (polki) and precious gemstones into gold using lac (a natural resin) and pure gold foil - without any chemical adhesives or modern prongs. The process demands extraordinary patience and skill, and each piece is essentially a work of miniature sculpture.
What is the difference between jadau and kundan?
Kundan refers specifically to the refined gold foil used to secure gemstones in place, and it is one step within the broader jadau process. So while all kundan work is jadau, not all jadau is limited to kundan - jadau also encompasses meenakari (enamelling), polki setting, and the overall lac-based construction. At SHRIVATSA, our pieces involve the complete jadau tradition.
What gold purity do you use?
We primarily work with 22-karat gold for structural elements and 24-karat (pure gold) foil for kundan setting. The 22KT gold provides the ideal balance of durability and lustre for everyday heirloom wear, while the 24KT foil ensures the brilliant reflective base that makes polki diamonds glow from within.
Are your gemstones natural?
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, all gemstones used in SHRIVATSA jewellery are natural. This includes our polki (uncut diamonds), emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and pearls. Some coloured gemstones may undergo industry-standard treatments such as heat treatment or oiling to enhance clarity. We are always transparent about treatments and will provide full details upon request.
What is meenakari?
Meenakari is the centuries-old art of hand-painting enamel onto gold. Our master meenakars apply vibrant mineral-based pigments - typically in royal blue, emerald green, ruby red, and white - to the reverse side of jadau pieces. This not only adds a hidden layer of beauty but also protects the lac setting. The enamel is fired at precise temperatures, fusing permanently with the gold.
Shipping & Delivery
Do you ship across India?
Yes. We offer complimentary insured shipping to all major cities and towns across India. Every order is dispatched in tamper-proof, signature-required packaging to ensure your jewellery arrives safely. You will receive a tracking number as soon as your order ships.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship to select international destinations. International orders may be subject to customs duties and import taxes, which are the responsibility of the buyer. Please contact us via WhatsApp or email before placing an international order so we can confirm shipping options, costs, and estimated delivery times for your location.
How long does delivery take?
For ready-to-ship pieces, delivery within India typically takes 5 to 7 business days. Metro cities often receive orders in 3 to 5 business days. International shipments generally take 7 to 14 business days depending on the destination and customs processing. Custom orders follow their own timeline, which we confirm at the start of the project.
Is my order insured during transit?
Yes, every order is fully insured from the moment it leaves our atelier until it reaches your hands. In the unlikely event of damage or loss during transit, we will replace or repair the piece at no cost to you. Please inspect your package upon delivery and contact us immediately if you notice any issues.
Care & Warranty
How do I care for my polki or jadau jewellery?
Store each piece separately in the soft pouch or box provided, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Avoid contact with perfumes, hairspray, and household chemicals. To clean, gently wipe with a soft, dry muslin cloth - never use ultrasonic cleaners or chemical solutions on jadau jewellery, as these can damage the lac setting and meenakari enamel. We recommend professional cleaning at our atelier once a year.
Do you offer repairs and restoration?
Yes. We provide lifetime repair and restoration support for all SHRIVATSA pieces. Whether a stone needs re-setting, meenakari needs a touch-up, or a clasp requires replacement, our karigars will restore your jewellery to its original splendour. Simply reach out to us and we will arrange for secure pickup and return.
What is your return and exchange policy?
We offer a 7-day return window from the date of delivery for ready-to-ship pieces in their original, unworn condition. For exchanges, you receive 100% of the value credited toward your new purchase. Custom and bespoke pieces are made to order and are therefore not eligible for returns, though we are always happy to make adjustments. Please visit our full policy page for details.
Do you offer a buyback programme?
Yes. We value long-term relationships with our clients. If you wish to upgrade or exchange a SHRIVATSA piece, we offer a buyback based on the prevailing gold rate and the condition of the jewellery. Please contact us or visit our Exchange & Buyback policy page for current terms.
